ABB specialists are now on hand to carry out mapping and calibration of refrigerated storage equipment in line with the guidelines of the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency).
The new service is being offered through a nationwide team of qualified service engineers using ABB’s temperature probes and videographic data recording equipment. These engineers will ensure that a site’s refrigerated equipment is properly tested to MHRA guidelines and will provide a comprehensive post survey report that can be used as proof of testing during an MHRA inspection.
Under MHRA requirements, all cold chain storage equipment must be tested for its ability to provide stable refrigeration within a set temperature range depending on the type of sample being stored. Testing must be carried out under set criteria, determining factors such as the length of the test, the number of points measured in relation to the size of the plant and the accuracy of the temperature measuring and data logging devices.
“ABB is well placed to help hospitals and other related medical establishments meet the MHRA’s criteria,” says Stuart Melling, instrumentation service manager ABB Limited. “It has over 125 years of experience in temperature measurement, with a wide portfolio of proven temperature sensing equipment.”
ABB’s digital data recorders can also collect a wealth of mapping data, which can be compiled into a detailed post survey report within a fraction of the time offered by other suppliers. Compliant with FDA’s CFR21 Part 11 requirements for secure electronic data storage, these recorders eliminate the risk of unauthorised data tampering. For secure access to their data, customers can opt to have their data stored on ABB’s password-protected IBM-supported server, which provides ready access to key documents including calibration certificates and mapping reports, via a Web based portal called ‘ServicePort’.
“ABB provides a reliable and highly experienced alternative to many of the companies offering refrigerated storage mapping and calibration, which lack the knowledge, expertise and resources to correctly interpret and perform the MHRA’s testing procedures,” continues Melling. “In many cases, this has led to hospitals suffering non-conformances during MHRA inspections even though they have made every effort to get their equipment checked. Many suppliers also struggle to produce good quality survey reports or to issue them in a timely manner.”
